Charles Thomas Townsend

Charles Thomas Townsend was born on March 25, 1849 in Virginia.  He died on June 16, 1933 in Williams, Chatham, North Carolina.  He married Rebecca J. Cozart ( daughter of John L. Cozart and Margaret Mooney)  on October 13, 1880 in Person County, North Carolina. She was born in 1861 in North Carolina.  She married

Sarah Elizabeth Salley is buried in Celestial Memorial Gardens in Vanceboro, Craven, North Carolina.

7.  Jack Thomas Townsend was born on January 4, 1916 in North Carolina.  He died on March 13, 2006.
8.  Alice Ann Townsend was born on August 20, 1918 in Durham County, North Carolina.  She died on June 28, 1989 in Worcester County, Massachusetts.  She is burried at Worcester County, Memorial Park in Paxton, Worcester, Massachusetts.

Mallie Cozart (daughter of James M. Cozart and Catherine Oakley) was born on January 26, 1899 in Person County, North Carolina.  She died on October 13, 1928 in Cheeks Crossroads, Orange, North Carolina.  She married Harvey E. Wilkins (son of William Baxter Wilkins and Maggie Jane Wilkins) on January 2, 1915 in Orange County, North Carolina.  He was born in November 1896 in North Carolina.  He died on May 15, 1923 in Cedar Grove, Orange, North Carolina.

Robena Haith (daughter of Charlie Haith and Mary Jane Westbrook).  She was born in 1893.  She married Columbus B. Cozart Cozart (son of James M. Cozart and Catherine Oakley)   He was born in 1896 in Person County, North Carolina.  He died on May 10, 1918 in Cedar Grove, Orange, North Carolina.  

Columbus B. Cozart was buried at Mount Zion Christian Church Cemetery in Cedar Grove, Orange, North Carolina.

Children to this union are unknown.

She married William Eugene McCullock (son of William Booker McCullock and Annie Trimm) on October 20, 1923 in Graham, Alamance, North Carolina.  He was born on May 3, 1899 in Person County, North Carolina.  He died on October 1, 1993 in Durham, Durham, North Carolina.

William Eugene McColluck was buried at Mount Zion Christian Church Cemetery in Cedar Grove, Orange, North Carolina.

Obituary of James Woodrow Haith -- April 2009
James Woodrow Haith, age 71 of 1015 Everett Street passed away Saturday at 12:00 A. M. at the Hospice Home following a courageous battle with cancer.
A native of Alamance County he was the son of the late Frank Elmo and Lillian Qualls Haith. He was married to Donna Glomski Haith who survives. He was a retired employee of Leesona Corporation, a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and a veteran of the U. S. Air Force.
Surviving are his wife of the home, a Daughter, Mona Haith of Cary, 2 Grandchildren, Penetta Nichole Craig and John Allan Craig, a sister Ella Jean Bass and a brother David Elmore Haith, both of Raleigh, and several loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters, Eula Mae King and Angelee Turner and brothers, Aubrey Haith, Charlie Haith and Rev. Frank Haith.
Funeral service will be Wednesday April 29, 2009 at 10:00 a. m. at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church by Rev. Paul Gabriel, O. F. M. Conv. with interment to follow in the Alamance Memorial Park.

Erskine Edward Clayton (son of Alexander McDaniel Clayton and Allie Dell Cozart) was born in April 4, 1915 in Orange County, North Carolina.  He died on May 4, 1970 in Hampton, Virginia.  He married Alice Cozart (daughter of Hunter McGuire Cozart and Mary Ollie Cash) on August 16, 1944 in Burlington, Alamance, North Carolina.  She was born on August 27, 1906 in North Carolina.  She died on June 13, 1975 in Norfolk City, Virginia.

Erskine Edward Clayton and Alice Cozart were buried at Pine Hill Cemetery in Burlington, Alamance, North Carolina.

Allie Dell Cozart (daughter of James M. Cozart and Catherine Oakley) was born on January 26, 1899 in Person County, North Carolina.  She died on May 5, 1933 in Mebane, Alamance, North Carolina.  She married Alexander McDaniel Clayton (son of Richard J. Clayton and Adelia A Walters) on June 9, 1914 in Halifax County, Virginia.  He was born on September 14, 1888 in Orange County, North Carolina.  He died on June 19, 1933 in Mebane, Alamance, North Carolina.

John L. Cozart (son of John H. Cozart and Ann Fowler) was born in 1832 in North Carolina.  He married Margaret Mooney (daughter of Mr. Mooney and Jane) on August 6, 1857 in Person County, North Carolina.  She was born in 1839 in North Carolina.

Notes:  Both John and Margaret died before 1870.  I have not found either one on the 1870 census.  Both children are living with relatives in 1870 and with their grandmother in 1880.

Mantaville) was born on November 8, 1866 in Oceana, Wyoming, West Virginia.  She died on December 15, 1959 in Oceana, Wyoming, West Virginia.  She married Monteville Perry Canterbury (son of Ralph Canterbury and Chloe Ann Cook) in 1892 in Wyoming County, West Virginia.  He was born in December 11, 1864 in Wyoming County, West Virginia.  He died on August 18, 1940 in Wyoming County, West Virginia.

Chloe Ann Cozart and Monteville Perry Canterbury are buried in Kennedy Cemetery in Crany, Wyoming, West Virginia.

William Harrison Cozart (son of John H. Cozart and Ann Fowler) was born in April 1829 in North Carolina.  He died between 1900 and 1910.  He married Julia A. Mandaville in 1866 in Wyoming County, West Virginia.  Julia was born in 1842 in Virginia.  She died between 1872 and 1880.

There is a marriage record for William Harrison Cozart and Martha Ellen Tolliver in 1893 in Wyoming County, WV.  This William Harrison was born in 1872.  (Marriage Record)

James L. Cozart is living with his brother, John, in 1910 and 1920.  I can not find him after 1920.

John H. Cozart

John H. Cozart (son of Reuben Cozart and Elizabeth Weaver) was born in 1803 in North Carolina. He died on May 14, 1882 in Wyoming County, West Virginia. He married Ann Fowler on August 8, 1824 in Person County, North Carolina. Ann died before 1840.

1. Martha A. Cozart was born in 1825 in North Carolina.
2. Daughter Cozart was born in 1827 in North Carolina.
3. William Harrison Cozart was born in 1829.
4. John L. Cozart was born in 1832.

Notes:
In 1850, there is a Washington L. Cozart, age 7. Who is he? I have not seen any evidence that John remarried after Ann's death.

In 1860, there is a John Cozart, age 3. Who is he? I have seen some genealogies place him as the son of Martha, and that she had him out of wedlock, along with another child later on, named Isabelle. Could Washington in the previous census be her child as well? Are there records to show these relationships? In 1870, there is a Martha Shumate, wife of Owen Shumate, and a John and Isabelle Cozart are living in the home. I could not locate this family in 1880.

The birth year of the unknown daughter was estimated based on the age range given in the 1840 census and the known birth years for the other children.

5.  James Cozart was born in 1867 in West Virginia.

He married Elizabeth McMillan (daughter of Dudley McMillan and Mary) on June 19, 1869 in West Virginia.  She was born in 1832 in Virginia.

6.  Margaret A. Cozart was born in 1871 in West Virginia.
7.  Martha Jane Cozart was born in November 23, 1876.

Notes:  
Peter and Elizabeth were married in 1869.  The children born before then are from a previous wife.

In 1840, there is a P. G. Cozart in Fayette County, VA.  In this home are 1M(10-15) 1M(30-40) (this would be him) 1F(0-5) 1F(5-10) 1F(10-15) 1F(30-40) (VIEW CENSUS HERE)  If this is our Peter, then I would assume he was married at least 3 times.  First wife, recorded in 1840, would be too old to have children in the 1860s.  I have not been able to locate Peter in 1850 or 1860.  If anyone knows where to find him, please let me know!

Marriage Record: Peter Cozart and Catherine Cozart -- This record in Person County, North Carolina does not appear to be this Peter.  Catherine seems to have outlived Peter and is still in Person County in 1880, presumably living with a married daughter.  

The name of the older listed children's mother, Elizabeth, came from Nancy's death certificate.  I have not been able to confirm her name from any other records.

There is also a Peter Cozad (b.1818) with a wife Eliza.  This Peter was born in Pennsylvania.  He had children: Phebe J. (1843), John (1846), Mary M. (1853), Emily (1855).  I have seen his children confused mixed up with Peter Cozart's.
