Robbie Florence Montgomery

Robbie Florence Montgomery (daughter of Robert R. Montgomery and Ida Chittenden) was born on August 18, 1919 in Livingston County, Kentucky.  She died on July 23, 2007 in Boonville, Warrick, Indiana.    She married Grady Earl Simpkins (son of George A. Simpkins and Maude Allie Penn).  He was born in April 15, 1916 in Livingston County, Kentucky.  He died on September 1, 1941 in Hildalgo County, Texas.

Robbie Florence Montgomery was buried in Rose Hill Cemetery in Newburgh, Warrick, Indiana.  Grady Earl Simpkins was buried in Tyners Chapel Cemetery in Crittenden County, Kentucky.

1.  Roger Noel Simpkins was born on November 21, 1940 in Edinburg, Hildalgo, Texas.  He died on September 14, 1996 in Evansville, Vanderburgh, Indiana.  He was buried at Rose Hill Cemetery in Newburgh, Warrick, Indiana.

She married John Hebron Kirby (son of Foy Parrish Kirby and Clara Cash) on April 29, 1972.  He was born on April 24, 1926 in Chatham County, North Carolina.  He died on August 2, 2010 in Boonville, Warrick, Indiana.  

John Hebron Kirby was buried in Rose Hill Cemetery in Newburgh, Warrick, Indiana.

John Hebron Kirby

John Hebron Kirby (son of Foy Parrish Kirby and Clara Roberta Cash) was born on April 24, 1926 in Chatham County, North Carolina.  He died on August 2, 2010 in Boonville, Warrick, Indiana.  He married Robbie Florence Montgomery (daughter of Robert R. Montgomery and Ida Chittenden) on April 29, 1972.  She was born on August 18, 1919 in Livingston County, Kentucky.  She died on July 23, 2007 in Boonville, Warrick, Indiana.

John Hebron Kirby and Robbie Florence Montgomery were buried in Rose Hill Cemetery in Newburgh, Warrick, Indiana.

Dorothy Rachel Kirby

Dorothy Rachel Kirby (daughter of Foy Parrish Kirby and Clara Roberta Cash) was born on March 12, 1927 in Chatham County, North Carolina.  She died on February 20, 2017 in Durham, Durham, North Carolina.  She married Donald Elwyn Parrish (son of Alvin Emerson Parrish and Margaret Bryan).  He was born on February 17, 1924 in Edgecombe County, North Carolina.  He died on May 1, 1987 in Chapel Hill, Orange, North Carolina.

Dorothy Rachel Kirby and Donald Elwyn Parrish are buried at Lystra Baptist Church Cemetery in Farrington, Chatham, North Carolina.

Mrs. Rachel Kirby Parrish, 89 passed away Monday night, February 20, 2017 at Eno Pointe Assisted Living, in Durham, North Carolina.
A Chatham County native, Rachel was born March 12, 1927 to the late Clara Cash Kirby and Foy Parrish Kirby.
Rachel graduated from Pittsboro High School in 1944. She attended Danville Memorial Hospital School of Nursing as a member of the United States Nurse Corps of the US Army during WWII, where she met her future husband Don, a returning POW and Purple Heart Army Veteran. She graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1948. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Nursing Sorority and was a charter member of the Women in Military Service for America.
Rachel was employed as a Registered Nurse at UNC Memorial Hospital, in Chapel Hill for 32 years, ending her career in 1982 as Supervisor of the Inpatient Division of the Student Health Service. Rachel prided herself in being a college graduate and career professional during a time after the war when many women did not work outside the home.
Rachel was an avid gardener with a passion for roses, cultivating over 200 rose bushes in her garden, as well as a greenhouse of orchids, mini orange trees, mini kumquat trees, poinsettias, sago palms, and an abundant fruit orchard, fig bushes, and grape arbors. Rachel was an accomplished seamstress designing coordinated outfits for herself, her daughters and granddaughters. She was also a self taught artist with many of her oil paintings on display in her home.
Rachel was an active member of the Lystra Baptist Church where she served as the Girls Auxiliary Leader, member of the Women’s Missionary Society, Bible School Director, Sunday School Teacher and Church Officer.
In addition to her parents, Rachel was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Donald Elwyn Parrish, and her brother John Hebron Kirby. She is survived by her sister Leah Kirby Cheek of Spartanburg, SC; two daughters Polly Parrish Wise (Gary) of Chesapeake, VA; Lisa Parrish Bryant of Durham, NC; three grandchildren Andrea Wise Davis (Toby), Erin Wise Clements (Richard), Alexander Heartt Bryant (Kelly), and three great-grandchildren Fionna, Kyle, and Kelsey.
A service to honor her spirit and life will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017 beginning with visitation scheduled for 12:30 p.m, followed by the funeral scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at Donaldson Funeral Home in Pittsboro, NC; Rev. Susan Rogers officiating. The graveside service with military rights, will follow at Lystra Baptist Church cemetery in Chapel Hill, NC; Rev. Tim Williford officiating.

Leah Sue Kirby

Leah Sue Kirby (daughter of Foy Parrish Kirby and Clara Roberta Cash) was born on July 12, 1930 in Chatham County, North Carolina.  He died on May 26, 2021 in Spartanburg County, South Carolina.  She married William Seton Cheek (son of Leon C. Cheek and Jessie Mae Williams) on August 28, 1948 in William, Chatham, North Carolina.  He was born in 1925.  

Leah Sue Kirby was buried at Cub Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Wilkesboro, Wilkes, North Carolina.

Leah Sue Kirby Cheek passed away of natural causes Wednesday evening May 26, 2021, in her sleep at the age of 90. Born July 12, 1930 in Chatham County, NC she was the daughter of the late Foy Parrish Kirby and Clara Roberta Cash Kirby, and wife of the late Dr. William Seton Cheek.
She is survived by her three children, Carol Fruit, Sandra Cash, and Bill Cheek; her grandchildren, James Fruit, Roy Fruit, William Cheek III, and Sydney Cheek, and her great-grandchildren, Kaydence Jones and Katana Fruit. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a brother, John Hebron Kirby; sister, Rachel Kirby Parrish, and son-in-law, Winfred Ashley Cash.
Leah attended Bynum Elementary School in Pittsboro, and graduated Pittsboro High School in 1948. She married the love of her life, Dr. William Seton Cheek on August 28, 1948 and they moved to Kentucky where they attended the University of Kentucky at Louisville. Leah worked as a clerk and then head bookkeeper for L. B. Buchanan Office Equipment to help her husband complete medical school.
They moved to Spartanburg in 1961 when her husband joined Spartanburg Pathology Associates. She served 32 years as Girl Scouts Troop Leader 145, Girl Scout Administration, Camp Chairwoman, and she was awarded the highest honor in Girl Scouting, the Thank You Badge, three times. She was a member of Hillbrook Merry Tillers Garden Club since 1965. Leah started Keep Spartanburg Clean in 1989, and spoke to school children about recycling and how they could participate. She was profiled as a "Local Hero" in the June 1991 issue of Good Housekeeping magazine's Green Watch section, quoted "You may be just a little lady down in Spartanburg, but you can tell big companies what you think." She was recognized with many awards, including the Elizabeth Patterson Community Service Award, and by official proclamation of the Mayor James Talley, June 11 is recognized as Honoring Leah Cheek Day in Spartanburg. Leah was a former member of Fernwood Baptist Church in Spartanburg, SC and later a member of Lystra Baptist Church in Chapel Hill, NC.
Leah's family wishes to extend their special thanks to her caregivers and friends, Pam, Barbara, and Leigh Ann for all their love and care.
Visitation will be held 4:00-6:00 PM Sunday, May 30, 2021 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
A small graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at the Cub Creek Family Cemetery, in Chapel Hill, NC.

Clara Roberta Cash

Clara Roberta Cash (daughter of Moses Stanford Cash and Susan Townsend) was born on February 22, 1910 in North Carolina.  She died on March 29, 1987.  She married Foy Parrish Kirby (son of Winfield S. Kirby and Georgetta Rigsby).  He was born on December 28, 1894 in North Carolina.  He died on November 23, 1975 in Chapel Hill, Chatham, North Carolina.

Clara Roberta Cash and Foy Parrish Kirby are buried at Lystra Baptist Church Cemetery in Farrington, Chatham, North Carolina.
