Lovelia Townsend

Lovelia Townsend (daughter of Charles Thomas Townsend and Rebecca J. Cozart) was born on February 6, 1887 in North Carolina.  She died on October 6, 1968 in Danville, Virginia.  She married William Jefferson Nutt (son of Guilford Nutt and Lethe) on April 16, 1904 in Person County, North Carolina.  He was born on May 1, 1861 in Timberlake, Person, North Carolina.  He died on March 23, 1936 in Granville County, North Carolina.

Lovelia Townsend and William Jefferson Nutt were buried in Surl Primitive Baptist Church in Person County, North Carolina.

Susan Townsend

Susan Townsend (daughter of Charles Thomas Townsend and Rebecca J. Cozart) was born on February 10, 1889 in Person County, North Carolina.  She died on March 5, 1960 in Durham, Durham, North Carolina.  She married Moses Stanford Cash (son of Monroe Cash and Mahalia) on April 9, 1909 in Person County, North Carolina.  He was born on March 10, 1860 in Person County, North Carolina.  He died on May 27, 1942 in Durham County, North Carolina.

Susan Townsend and Moses Stanford Cash were buried in Mount Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery in Person County, North Carolina.

1.  John Thomas Cash was born on July 13, 1905.
2.  Clara Roberta Cash was born on February 22, 1910.
3.  Coy Stroud Cash was born on September 22, 1911.
4.  Woodrow Carlton Cash was born January 9, 1913 in Durham County, North Carolina.  He died on May 27, 1914 in William, Chatham, North Carolina.  
5.  Rebecca Jane Cash was born on March 22, 1914.
6.  David Cash was born on October 21, 1916.

Notes:
John Thomas Cash was born out of wedlock.  I do not know if Moses was his father or if Moses adopted him after his marriage to Susan.  Moses is listed on John's death certificate as his father, so I have him placed as a child of Moses here.

Rufus Thomas Townsend

Rufus Thomas Townsend (son of Floyd Ambous Townsend and Rosa Bell Slaughter) was born on December 12, 1931 in Craven County, North Carolina.  He died on July 12, 2008 in New Bern, Craven, North Carolina.

Rufus Thomas Townsend was buried in New Bern Memorial Cemetery in New Bern, Craven, North Carolina.

Rufus T. Townsend, 76, of New Bern died Monday, July 21, 2008, at Craven Regional Medical Center.
He was a veteran of the Korean War and a lifetime member of the VFW.
He is survived by one son, Michael Townsend of Richmond, Va.; one stepson, Fred Paisley of New Bern; three daughters, Vicki Milam of Gloucester, Va., Patricia Miller of Chesapeake, Va., and Debra Cottrill of Norfolk, Va.; one sister, Thelma Smith of Vanceboro; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
His funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Cotten Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at New Bern Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to VFW Dixon-Conderman Post 2514, South Butler Road, New Bern, N.C. 28560.

Melvin Floyd Townsend (son of Floyd Ambous Townsend and Rosa Bell Slaughter) was born on September 23, 1919 in Rougemont, Durham, North Carolina.  He died on April 29, 1976 in Portsmouth, Virginia.  He married Eunice Inez Jones (John A. Jones and Lizzie Tripp) on October 9, 1937 Craven County, North Carolina.  She was born on February 10, 1921.  She died on February 3, 2003.

Melvin Floyd Townsend and Eunice Inez Jones are buried at Palmetto Free Will Baptist Church in Vanceboro, Craven, North Carolina.

Thelma Mae Townsend

Thelma Mae Townsend (daughter of Floyd Ambous Townsend and Rosa Bell Slaughter) was born on October 5, 1917 in Durham County, North Carolina.  She died on July 1, 2012 in New Bern, Craven, North Carolina.  She married John Allen Smith (son of John Jefferson Smith and Narcissa Franks) on September 4, 1936 in Beaufort County, North Carolina.  He was born on November 2, 1912 in North Carolina.  He died on September 30, 1973 in New Bern, Craven, North Carolina. 

Thelma Mae Townsend and John Allen Smith were buried in Holly Hill Cemetery in Vanceboro, Craven, North Carolina.

VANCEBORO - Mrs. Thelma Mae Townsend Smith, 94, went to be with the Lord peacefully on Sunday, July 1, 2012, at Two Rivers Health Care in New Bern.
The funeral service will be conducted on Thursday at 3 p.m. in the Holly Hill Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Smith, a native of Durham County, had been in the Vanceboro Community all her life.
She was married to the Rev. John Allen Smith and was a devoted minister's wife. They traveled spreading the gospel through God's message and music.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her two sons, Floyd Allen Smith and John Wesley Smith and two brothers.
She is survived by son, Rev. Bobby E. Smith and wife, Evelyn, of Benson; daughter-in-laws, Sally Jane Smith of Vanceboro and Sharon Smith of Augusta, Ga.; grandchildren, Bobby Jr., Cindy, Sheila, Kim, Renee, Regina, Gregory, and Allen; 14 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and uncle, Buyrl Slaughter of Vanceboro. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1-2:30 p.m. at Holly Hill Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Memorials may be made to Holly Hill Pentecostal Holiness Church Building Fund, 1080 Piney Neck Road, Vanceboro, NC 28586.

Floyd Ambous Townsend

Floyd Ambous Townsend (son of Charles Thomas Townsend and Rebecca J. Cozart) was born on January 28, 1890 in North Carolina.  He died on March 20, 1966 in Craven County, North Carolina.  He married Rosa Bell Slaughter (daughter of Sam Slaughter and Lesa) on September 23, 1916 in Durham County, North Carolina.  She was born on October 15, 1896.  She died on February 18, 1986. 

Floyd Ambous Townsend and Rosa Bell Slaughter were buried at Palmetto Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery in Vanceboro, Craven, North Carolina.

Cozart) was born on May 31, 1898 in Person County, North Carolina.  She died on May 23, 1983 in Roxboro, Person, North Carolina.  She married Rufus Henry Dalehite (son of Robert Henry Dalehite and Mary Rosa Gilliam) on May 1, 1920 in Durham County, North Carolina.  He was born on September 18, 1895 in North Carolina.  He died on May 15, 1974 in Durham, Durham, North Carolina.

Margaret G. Townsend and Rufus Henry Dalehite were buried in Palmer Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery in Eno, Orange, North Carolina.
