NEWPORT NEWS - Ruth Thornton Adams, 96, a native of Georgia and a Peninsula resident for six years, died Saturday, August 22.
Mrs. Adams was a homemaker.
Survived by two daughters, Harriette Adams Richardson of Newport News and Clara Adams Hannigan of Silver Spring, Md.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral at a later date in Jackson, Ga.

Ruth T. Adams, 96, a native of Jackson, died Saturday, Aug. 22,1992 in Newport News, Virginia.
Graveside funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 31, in the Jackson City Cemetery with Rev. Jim Cantrell Jr. officiating.
Mrs. Adams had been a resident of Newport News for the past two years. She was the daughter of the late L. Walter and Anna Weaver Thornton of Jackson. Survivors include daughters Harriette Adams Richardson of Newport News and Clara Adams Hannigan of Silver Spring, Maryland; grandchildren Noreen Hannigan Nanovice of Arlington, Vir. and Robert F. Richardson Jr. of Williamsburg, Vir.; two great grandchildren; six nieces and a nephew.
Haisten Funeral Home in Jackson is in charge of arrangements.
DUNN -- Ms. Lida Ivey Nordan, 82, of Dunn died Tuesday in her home.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Sansom Community Church by the Rev. Jerome Pope. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Ms. Nordan is survived by two brothers, Charles Ivey of Coats and Eldridge Ivey of Dunn; two sisters, Bertha Jones and Hazel Williams, both of Dunn; three grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Cromartie-Miller & Lee Funeral Home.
