Lewis A. Garrett 1917 ~ 2007 Lewis Alonzo Garrett passed away at the Gardens Terrace Care Center May 4, 2007 of Parkinson's and Diabetes. He was born October 19, 1917 in Zebulon, Georgia to William Lewis and Mamie Ethel Weaver Garrett. After graduating from high school there and attending a few college classes, his sister got him enrolled in the CCC program. While on his way to California, his group was diverted to Utah to fight forest fires in the Duck Creek area. It was during this stop with the CCC's in a caf? in Panguich he met his sweetheart, Rhoana Judd. They were married February 9, 1940 in Salt Lake City and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on November 18, 1948. Married for almost 65 years. Lewis was a very caring and giving person. Shortly after their marriage, his wife's three teenage sisters came to live with them. He was always "carrying" the ladies, who couldn't drive anymore, around to church and other activities. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many positions. He worked for 20 years as a painter. Some of the time for the Salt Lake School Board. For health reasons he became a certified property appraiser for the State of Utah and retired from there in 1979. He became very familiar with most of the state of Utah while doing his appraisals. He continued appraising until he retired for good in about 1992. He loved wearing his wife's roses on his lapel to church, walking around the block with her and being a wonderful grandpa. He enjoyed fishing and many of his grandchildren had the privilege of spending time fishing with him. He loved traveling with his wife to visit relatives in the eastern U.S. and other places such as Alaska and Pacific Islands. He is survived by his three children, Virginia (Venoy) Wall, Layton, Willy (Karyn) Garrett, Sandy, and Steve (Janet) Garrett, Kearns; seven grandchildren; 20 great-grand-children, and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rhoana. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in the Douglas Ward, 721 S. 1200 E. with a viewing one hour prior to services.
