Barnabas Michael

Barnabas Michael was born in 1769 in North Carolina. He married Catherine. Catherine was born in 1770 in North Carolina.

Children of Barnabas Michael and Catherine are:
1. William J. Michael was born in 1791.
2. James Michael was born in 1801.
3. Sarah Michael was born in 1803 in Tennessee.
4. Daughter Michael was born between 1800 and 1810 in Tennessee.
5. Barnabas Michael was born in 1810.
6. Peter Michael was born on September 24, 1813.
7. Daughter Michael was born between 1815 and 1820 in Tennessee.
8. Son Michael was born between 1820 and 1825 in Tennessee.
9. Daughter Michael was born between 1820 and 1825 in Tennessee.

Notes
Daughter born between 1815 and 1820 is likely to be Katherine Michael who married Aaron Jones on June 12, 1832 in Carroll County, Georgia. Katherine had apparently died before 1850, and most likely closer to 1840. Aaron had remarried to a woman named Mary by 1850. According to the 1850 census, Aaron was born around 1814. Daughter born between 1820 and 1825 is most likely Eleanor Michael who married Arthur McWhorter on September 21, 1836 in Carroll County, Georgia. According to the 1850 census, Eleanor was 30 years old. She and Arthur had four children. These two girls could just as equally be granddaughters of Barnabas by his son William. William has two daughters who are in the same age group as well.

Research of Coy Michael

Barney was born about 1769 in NC. I have not found his parents or his wife, Catherine's parents. She was also born in NC. Barney was in Jefferson Co., TN in 1800. He was appointed Road Overseer there. By 1805 Barney had purchased 150 acres of property in Grainger County, TN. Both Barney and William were on the 1814 tax list of Grainger County. William had 200 acres. In 1815 William went to Jefferson County to marry Hannah Sellers. Hannah was the daughter of John Sellers and Rebecca George. John and Rebecca remained in Jefferson County until after the 1830 Census. They both died in Hamilton Co., TN in August 1839.
Barney and William and families moved to Monroe County, TN in the 1820s as soon as the Indians moved out. They purchased land in the Hiwassee District of Monroe County, TN and were there in the 1830 Census. In 1831 they sold their land and moved to Carroll Co., GA.
John did not have a sister named Mary that I know of. In 1830 he had one girl age 10 to 15. In 1840 he had one girl 5 to 10. The other, who would be 20 to 25, apparently married. In 1850 the census listed Sarah, age 16, as the only girl in William's home.

Peter Michael

Rebecca Martin

Peter Michael (son of Barnabas Michael and Catherine) was born on September 24, 1813 in Tennessee. He died on May 30, 1889 in Carroll County, Georgia. He married Rebecca Ann Martin on April 24, 1832 in Carroll County, Georgia. Rebecca was born on January 06, 1817 in South Carolina. She died on September 23, 1905 in Carroll County, Georgia.

Peter and Rebecca are buried at Tallapoosa Primitive Baptist Church in Carroll County, Georgia.

Children of Peter Michael and Rebecca Ann Martin are:
1. Charlotte J. Michael was born in 1833.
2. Mary E. Michael was born on March 25, 1835.
3. James Wilbur Michael was born on November 12, 1839.
4. Sarah C. Michael was born in 1841.
5. Nancy Louisa Michael was born on July 6, 1843.
6. Rebecca Ann Michael was born in May 1845.
7. Emily Caroline Michael was born in 1847.

Notes
In 1870, within the household of Peter and Rebecca, were living a woman, named Kittie Ricket and her three children: Henry, Alice and Wilburn. I do not know her relationship to Peter and Rebecca. She does not appear to be a daughter. In 1880, Henry is living Carroll County, Georgia in the home of Gilbert Cole and his wife, Elizabeth. Henry also married Gusta Wells on March 12, 1882 in Carroll County, Georgia. If anyone can tell me who they are, I would greatly appreciate it!

Tallapoosa Primitive Baptist Church records reveal the following: Peter Michael was born Sep. 24, 1813 and died May 10, 1889. He joined Tallapoosa Church Dec. 27, 1873 and left Aug. 8, 1886. He was ordained as Deacon in 1881 and served as Church Clerk from 1881 to 1884. He is buried in the Church cemetary (Loc K1) / Rebecca Michael wsa born Jan. 6, 1817 and died Jul. 30, 1905. She joined Tallapoosa Church Sep. 23, 1873 and left Aug. 8, 1886. She is buried in the Church cemetary (Loc K2) / Hope this was helpful -- John Acree, Deacon & Clerk

Michael Powers

Michael Powers (son of John Patrick Powers and Margaret Marcella Coley) was born on September 29, 1830 in Killucan Parish, Westmeath County, Ireland and died April 04, 1912 in Carroll County, Georgia. He married Nancy Louisa Michael (daughter of Peter Michael and Rebecca Ann Martin) on November 22, 1860 in Carroll County, Georgia. She was born on July 16, 1843 in Carroll County, Georgia, and died on December 31, 1912 in Carroll County, Georgia.

Michael Powers served in the Civil War. He enlisted in the spring of 1862 and served in Co F in the 19th Georgia Infantry. He was wounded in April 1865 and sent home.

They are both buried at Lee's Chapel Congregational Methodist Church Cemetery in Carroll County, Georgia.

They had the following children:

1. John Peter Powers was born in January 1861.

2. Rebecca Marcia Powers was born on February 6, 1866.

3. Mary E. C. Powers was born on March 17, 1868.

4. James Wilburn Powers was born on October 10, 1870.

5. Loretta Powers was born on August 8, 1873.

6. Patrick C. Powers was born in October 1875.

7. Michael Sylvester Powers was born in April 1879.

8. Joseph Lawrence Powers was born on March 22, 1882.

9. Sallie Lee Powers was born on June 13, 1886.
