James Henderson York

James Henderson York (son of J. Harvey York and America “Myrtle” Lykens) was born on January 4, 1889 in Glenhayes, Wayne, West Virginia. He died on December 30, 1966 in Welch, McDowell, West Virginia. He married Eliza Curry (daughter of Harvey Curry and Sarah Meadows) on December 24, 1909 in Mingo County, West Virginia. She was born on March 12, 1889 in Logan County, West Virginia. She died on April 30, 1928 in Mingo County, West Virginia.

James Henderson York was buried in Palm Memorial Gardens in Matheny, Wyoming, West Virginia.

I do not know who the mother of Billy Lee York is. He was born after Eliza Curry died and before James married Alice.
I am not related to the children of James Henderson York and Eliza Curry so their descendants will not be traced.

She married James Douglas Canterbury (son of Monteville Perry Canterbury and Chloa Ann Cozart) on August 24, 1940 in Hardy, Pike, Kentucky. He was born on February 3, 1908 in West Virginia. He died on January 2, 1965 in Raleigh County, West Virginia.

Margaret Josephine Adkins OCEANA - Margaret Josephine "Jo" Adkins, 81, died Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, in Raleigh General Hospital following a brief battle with cancer. Born July 16, 1922, at Bud, she was the daughter of the late Charles C. and Mary E. Ritchie. Mrs. Adkins was a member of Craney Missionary Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Douglas Canterbury; a son, Jim "Jim Doug" Canterbury; two brothers, James Elbert Ritchie and Dr. Charles C. Ritchie Jr.; and two sisters, Mary C. Terry and Rachel Cozort Lamb. Survivors include her husband, Mason Adkins; two brothers, Jack H. Ritchie and his wife, Novella, of Oceana and Paul C. Ritchie Sr. and his wife, Pat, of Beckley; a daughter-in-law, Theresa Canterbury of Oceana; a special friend, like a sister, Genevie Laxton of Oceana; three nieces, Dottie Thompson, Betty Halsey and her husband, Fred, and Susie Wolfe and her husband, Bob; five great-nieces, Tanya Garber and her husband, Phillip Jr., Andrea Halsey, Julie Cozort, Michelle Hoddox and her husband, Ted, and Catherine Thompson; four nephews, Paul Ritchie II and his wife, Pat, Jim Cozort and his wife, Patricia, Ed Cozort and his wife, Karen, and Gregg Smith; and two great-nephews, Adam Cozort and Justin Smith; a great-great-nephew, Teddy Hoddox; countless friends; and her second family, the staff of Oceana Middle School. Hattie Ann Canterbury

Hattie Ann Canterbury (daughter of Monteville Perry Canterbury and Chloa Ann Cozart) was born in July 1898 in West Virginia.  She died in 1977.  She married Inghrum Bailey (son of Charles Whitlock Calfee Bailey and Macallia Ann Meadows) on May 4, 1921 in Mercer County, West Virginia.  He was born on March 4, 1895 in Mercer County, West Virginia.  He died in March 1979 in Beckley, Raleigh, West Virginia.

Hattie Ann Canterbury and Inghrum Bailey are buried at Palm Memorial Gardens in Matheny, Wyoming, West Virginia.

4.  Emory Jackson Bailey was born on June 28, 1929.

Obituary of Ingram Bailey
Ingram Bailey, 81, died Tuesday in a Beckley hospital after a long illness. Born March 4, 1895, in Mercer County, he was a son of the late Charles Whitlock "C.W.C." Calfee Bailey & Macallia "Celia" Ann Meadows-Bailey 
He was a retired coal miner, having worked in the mines for 47 years, was a veteran of World War I, was a member of the United Mine Workers Local 7604.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Chloa Ann Bailey; his siblings, Josiah N. Bailey, Mandy L. Bailey, Charles E. Bailey, & Millard F. Bailey; his stepmother, Mary Elvira Burton-Bailey and half brother, Willie W. Bailey.
Survivors include his wife Hattie Ann Canterbury-Bailey whom he married on May 4, 1921 in Mercer County, WV; three sons, Seldon Ralph Bailey of Kopperston, Bernard Bailey of Oceana and Jack Bailey of Chandler, AZ.
He is also survived by five brothers, Kelly J. Bailey of MA, Dee Bailey of Princeton, George Bailey of Spanishburg, Alton Bailey of Rock and George of Way Cross, GA; five sisters, Minnie Bailey-Farley, and Toddie Bailey Schultz, both of Princeton, Nora B. Bailey-Agee of Fireco, Eulah Bailey-Adkins of Huntington and Vida A. Bailey of Bluefield; 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Ingram Bailey was PVT, US Army, World War I veteran. He died at age 81 following a long illness. Burial will be in Palm Memorial Gardens at Matheny.

Bessie Faye Canterbury

Bessie Faye Canterbury (daughter of Onie Kester Canterbury and Sarah Bell Shrewsbury) was born on March 16, 1937 in West Virginia.  She died on February 15, 2020.  She married Mr. Butts.

   Bessie Faye Canterbury, a longtime resident of Woburn, passed away on Saturday evening, February 15 after a long illness.  She was 82 years of age.
   Born and raised in West Virginia, she was daughter of the late Onie Kester, and the late Sarah Belle Canterbury.  Bessie grew up in the town of Princeton, West Virginia, coming to Massachusetts at the age of 16.
   Bessie held many jobs throughout her life, early in her career primarily in retail. Prior to her retirement, she worked for Avnet, Inc. in Danvers.  In her free time, Bessie enjoyed country music, crocheting and sewing.
   She is survived by four daughters, Sandra Lyon and her husband Christopher of Raymond, NH, Darlene Butt of Newburyport, Joyce King and her husband Robert of Chelmsford, and Lyn Butt and her long time partner Paul Gillespie of Dracut; and she was preceded in death by one daughter, the late Sherie Butt.  She is also survived by 14 grandchildren; Laura Eichler and her husband Ben, Jennifer Nelson and her husband Tom, Sherry King, Lisa Lorraine and her husband Pierre, Sarah Naticchioni and her long time partner James Willhide, Heather O’Neil and her husband Jonathan, Joe Torrice and his long time partner Liz Torres, Andrew Stevens and his wife Damita, Paul Gillespie and his long time partner Courtnee Benner, Daniel Gillespie, Jamie McMinn and her husband Steve, Harry Leach and his wife Marissa, and Eric Leach and his fiance Alisa.  She was preceded in death by one grandson, the late Matthew Stevens. She is also survived by 19 great grandchildren.
   Services will be private.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bessie’s memory may be made to the MSPCA, 350 South Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02130.  Arrangements by the Graham Funeral Home, Woburn MA

David Eugene Canterbury (son of James Virgil Canterbury and Betty Katherine Skeens) was born on August 14, 1951 in Mercer County, West Virginia.  He died on March 8, 2013 in Bluefield, Mercer, West Virginia.  He married Linda Ann Hylton (daughter of William Truman Hylton and Dollie Mae Walls) on August 9, 1971 in Giles County, Virginia.  She was born on January 20, 1955.

David Eugene Canterbury
INGLESIDE -- David Eugene Canterbury, 61, of the Hardy community near Ingleside died Friday, March 8, 2013 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center in Bluefield.
Born August 14, 1951 in Mercer County, he was the son of Betty Katherine Skeens Canterbury, of St. Albans, W. Va. and the late James Virgil Canterbury.  David was a former employee of Bartlett Tree Service and S. S. Belcher Company.  He had been a lifelong residence of the Princeton area.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one brother, Bernard Steven Canterbury Sr. and one infant sister, Judith K. Canterbury.
Additional survivors include his wife, Linda Ann Hylton Canterbury of Ingleside, one son, David E. "Doc" Canterbury, Jr., of Ingleside, two daughters, Angela Dawn Canterbury of Glenwood Park and Janet Rose Canterbury of Richlands, Va., two granddaughters, Laura Roselia Canterbury and Rosa Jamilet Canterbury., two sons-in-laws, David Burgos and Alfred Ronald Cocus.; two brothers, James Virgil Canterbury Jr. and William Gary Canterbury, both of Princeton and three sisters, Betty Lou Hensley, of Bluefield, Lois Elaine Hindre of Rock, and Connie Jean Canterbury of St. Albans, W. Va.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 14, 2013 at the Brown Cemetery, Peggy Branch Road at Hardy with the Rev. Jiggs Coburn officiating.  Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.  There will be no visitation.  Those attending the graveside service are asked to meet at the cenetery by the service hour on Thursday.
Fredeking Funeral Service in Oakvale is serving the Canterbury family.
