James Virgil Canterbury

James Virgil Canterbury  (son of Onie Kester Canterbury and Sarah Bell Shrewsburywas born on March 22, 1923 in Dott, Mercer, West Virginia.  He died on January 11, 1988 in Princeton, Mercer, West Virginia.  He married Betty Katherine Skeens on June 2, 1945 in Ingleside, Mercer, West Virginia.  She was born on October 30, 1927 in Mercer County, West Virginia.  She died on November 17, 2016 in St. Albans, Kanawha, West Virginia.

James Virgil Canterbury and Betty Katherine Skeens were buried in Brown Cemetery in Hardy, Mercer, West Virginia.

ST. ALBANS — Betty Katherine "Kat" Skeens Canterbury, 89, of St. Albans, WV, a former resident of Hardy Hollow near Ingleside, died Thursday, November 17, 2016 at her residence. Born October 30, 1927 in Mercer County she was the daughter of the late William Skeens and Victoria Blankenship Skeens. Katherine was a homemaker and of the Holiness faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Virgil Canterbury, Sr.; two sons, Bernard Steven Canterbury and David Eugene Canterbury; one infant daughter, Judith K. Canterbury; four brothers, Clyde Skeens, Howard Skeens, Harold Skeens, and Otis Skeens; and three sisters, Ethel Sprinkles, Madeline Blankenship, and Margaret Terry. Katherine was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Survivors include three daughters, Connie Jean Arteese of St. Albans, WV with whom she made her home, Betty Lou Hensley of Princeton and Lois Elaine Hindre of Rock; two sons, James Virgil Canterbury, Jr. and William Gary Canterbury both of Princeton; and twenty grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at the G.E. Davis Chapel of Fredeking Funeral Service in Oakvale with Pastor George Mong of St. Albans, WV officiating. Burial will follow at the Brown Cemetery, Peggy Branch Road, Ingleside, WV. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM, Monday, November 21, 2016. Fredeking Funeral Service in Oakvale is serving the Canterbury family.
