Edward G. Poynter, 83, of Corbin, passed away Friday, Feb. 20, 2009, at the Christian Health Center. Eddie was born June 17, 1925 in Corbin, a son of the late Walter and Della Frazier Poynter. He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn Poynter in November 2007 and his stepmother Bernice Weaver Poynter .He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age 17 and participated in 12 campaigns in the South Pacific during World War II as a gunner on the U.S.S. Bradford. He belonged to First Christian Church. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Annette and Garry Frederick of Northville, Mich.; two granddaughters and their husbands, Kelly and George Arnold of South Lyon, Mich. and Robin and Dan Goodrich of Brighton, Mich.; four grandchildren, Robin Lynn Arnold, Evelyn Arnold, Morgan Goodrich and Garrett Goodrich; three brothers and a sister, Dean Poynter of Louisville, Roy Poynter, Jo Hoffman and Walter “Buddy” Poynter, all of Corbin. Eddie’s funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, at the O’Neil Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Joe Eaton and Chaplain Larry Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Cumberland Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m. Wednesday at O’Neil Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Christian Health Center activity fund.
