Novella Cozort

Novella Cozort (daughter of John Harrison Cozort and Triza Eclantine McGraw) was born on September 26, 1914 in Ravencliff, Wyoming, West Virginia. She died on April 8, 2008 in Oceana, Wyoming, West Virginia. She married Jack Harding Ritchie (son of Charles C. Ritchie and Mary Elizabeth Nidiffer) on February 14, 1942 in Oceana, Wyoming, West Virginia. He was born on October 13, 1920 in Princeton, Mercer, West Virginia. He died on May 5, 2017 in Oceana, Wyoming, West Virginia.

Novella Cozort and Jack Harding Ritchie were buried at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Prosperity, Raleigh, West Virginia.

OCEANA - Novella Cozort Ritchie, 93, of Oceana, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2008, following a short illness. Born Sept. 26, 1914, at Ravencliff, she was the youngest child of John "Jack" H. Cozort (1872-1958) and Triza Eclantine McGraw-Cozort (1879-1932). She grew up on her family’s farm in Crany and lived the rest of her life in Oceana. Novella graduated from Oceana High School in 1933 and was in one of the first graduating classes from Beckley College. She was a member of Oceana United Methodist Church. She taught school one year, then worked for Koppers Store, and also worked in the mine office at Lynco. She and her husband owned and operated Jack’s Transfer and later Ritchie’s Furniture in Oceana until their retirement in 1989. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Creed Cozort (1900-1921) and Vaughn Cozort (Deceased); and two sisters, Grace Cozort-McGraw (Deceased) and Virginia Cozort-Kennedy (Deceased). She is survived by her devoted husband of 66 years, Jack Harding Ritchie (1920-2017) whom she married on February 14, 1942 in Oceana, Wyoming County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Wyoming County, WV, 1942, Page 351, Application Date: February 4, 1942); a daughter, Betty Ritchie-Halsey and her husband, Fred Halsey, of Oceana; a granddaughter, Andrea Halsey-Hyett and her husband, Jason Hyett, of Clemmons, N.C.; and several nieces, nephews and friends. Service will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 11, at Evans Memorial Chapel, Oceana, with the Rev. Gerald Kincaid and the Rev. James Walker officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Obituary of Jack Harding Ritchie – May 2017
Jack Harding Ritchie, 96, of Oceana, WV passed away on Friday, May 5, 2017. He was born on October 13, 1920 in Princeton, WV a son of the late Charles C. Ritchie, Sr. (Deceased), and Mary Nidiffer-Ritchie (Deceased). Jack grew up in Bud, WV, and was a 1938 graduate of Herndon High School. He and his wife Novella were the owners and operators of Jack's Transfer in Oceana. As an agent for United Van Lines, he moved people in and out of Wyoming County for many years. They owned Ritchie's Furniture from 1956 until their retirement in 1989. Jack was a well respected, honest businessman, who treated everyone fairly. He was always a true gentleman. Until his health deteriorated, Jack faithfully attended Crany Missionary Baptist Church. He helped to establish the Oceana Fire Department and also was instrumental in bringing a bank to Oceana. He was one of the original directors of the Bank of Oceana and was extremely proud of his fifteen years of service as a director without missing a single board meeting. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, business partner and true love of his life, Novella Cozort-Ritchie (1914-2008) whom he married on February 14, 1942 in Oceana, Wyoming County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Wyoming County, WV, 1942, Page 351, Application Date: February 4, 1942); his brothers, Charles C. Ritchie, Jr. (Deceased) and Paul C. Ritchie (Deceased), and their wives Dorothy Ritchie (Deceased), Marguerite Ritchie (Deceased) and Pat Ritchie (Deceased); his sisters, Mary Ritchie-Terry (Deceased), Josephine Ritchie-Canterbury-Adkins (Deceased) and Rachel Cozort-Lamb (Deceased), and their husbands Walt (Deceased), Doug (Deceased), Mason (Deceased), Vaughn (Deceased) and Harold (Deceased); sisters-in-law Grace McGraw (Deceased) and Virginia Kennedy (Deceased); and several nieces and nephews. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Betty Halsey and Fred Halsey; his granddaughter Andrea Halsey-Fatony and her husband Dana Fatony; and his great grandson Dallas Fatony. He will be sadly missed by his family, his many friends, especially his good friends Bill and Regina Cook, and his caregivers. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 9, 2017, in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV, with Rev. Raybon Cook and Rev. William Cook officiating. He will be laid to rest in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley, WV.


Virginia Faye Cozort

Virginia Faye Cozort (daughter of John Harrison Cozort and Triza Eclantine McGraw) was born on March 9, 1902 in West Virginia. She died on November 16, 1986. She married Ira Jay Richardson (son of Drury Vance Richardson and Mary Ellen Cozart) on October 7, 1923 in Kanawha County, West Virginia. He was born on March 31, 1893 in McDowell County, West Virginia. He died on October 23, 1933 in Wyoming County, West Virginia.

Virginia Faye Cozort was buried at Palm Memorial Gardens in Matheny, Wyoming, West Virginia. Ira Jay Richardson was buried at Gunnoe Family Cemetery in Wyoming County, West Virginia.

Grace Mae Cozort

Gracie Mae Cozort (daughter of John Harrison Cozort and Triza Eclantine McGraw) was born January 12, 1899 in Wyoming County, West Virginia. She died on April 27, 1991. She married Etsie Bryan McGraw (son of Robert L. McGraw and Victoria Daniels). He was born on October 5, 1896 in Wyoming County, West Virginia. He died on March 4, 1965 in Meadow Bridge, Fayette, West Virginia.

Gracie Mae Cozort and Etsie Bryan McGraw were buried at Wallace Memorial Cemetery in Crawley, Greenbrier, West Virginia.

OCEANA — Elizabeth Catherine "Susie" Wolfe, 49, of Oceana, passed away on Monday, April 18, 2011 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born October 2, 1961 in Beckley, a daughter of the late Vaughn J. and Rachel Mae Ritchie Cozort. She was a 1979 graduate of Oceana High School and a member of the Crany Missionary Baptist Church. Susie worked as an EMT for over 20 years, was a First Aid and CPR instructor for much of that time. During her career she worked for many of the local EMS Services, endeavoring to help those in need. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Bob" Wolfe and a brother, Eddie Cozort. Those left to mourn her passing include her daughter, Tanya Dawn Garber and husband Phillip Jr. of Oceana; a step-son, Joshua Wolfe of Pennsylvania; a brother, Jim Cozort and wife Patricia of Oceana; two grandchildren, Faith and Willia Garber of Oceana; an uncle Jack Ritchie of Oceana; sister-in-law Karen Roberts of North Carolina; nieces Julie Cozort and Misti Toler, both of Oceana; nephew Adam Cozort and wife Emily of Oceana; special cousins, Betty Halsey and husband Fred and Andrea Hall and husband Daniel, all of Oceana; and a host of other loving family and friends. Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday April 21, 2011 in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home with Rev. James Walker officiating. Susie will be laid to rest in the Kennedy Cemetery, Crany, W.Va.. State and Local EMS Personnel will honor Susie with an EMS Honor Guard and graveside rites. OCEANA Robert R. "Bob" Wolfe, 54, of Oceana, passed away Monday, April 17, 2006, following a massive heart attack. Born March 24, 1952, in Butler, Pa., he was the son of the late Brady and Marguriette Roofner Wolfe. Mr. Wolfe was of the Baptist faith. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and the Penn State Alumni Association. He worked for Adams Manufacturing and was co-owner of The Gun Shop. Bob enjoyed long walks and being with his granddaughter. Mr. Wolfe was also an organ donor. Survivors include his wife, Suzie Cozort Wolfe; a son, Joshua R. Wolfe of Warren, Pa.; a daughter, Tanya Garber and her husband, Phillip Jr., of Oceana; a brother, Dennis Wolfe of Pennsylvania; brothers-in-law, Ed Cozort and his wife, Karen, of Oceana and Jim Cozort and his wife, Patricia, of Oceana; a nephew, Adam Cozort, and a niece, Julie Cozort, both of Oceana; a granddaughter, Faith Marie Garber of Oceana; special friends, Ed and Jo Adams and Jack Arthur, all of Beckley. Service will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 21, at Evans Memorial Chapel, Oceana, with the Rev. Jerry Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Kennedy Family Cemetery, Crany. Rachel Mae Ritchie

Rachel Mae Ritchie (daughter of Charles C. Ritchie and Mary Elizabeth Nidiffer) was born on January 26, 1924 in West Virginia.  She died on April 11, 2003.  She married Vaughn J. Cozort (son John Harrison Cozort and Triza Eclantine McGraw). He was born on July 25, 1906 in West Virginia.  He died in November 1985.

She married David Harold Lamb (son of Okey Johnson Lamb and Goldie Bailey).  He was born on April 3, 1921 in Wyoming County, West Virginia.  He died on August 7, 1989 in Beckley, Raleigh, West Virginia.  

David Harold Lamb was buried in Kennedy Cemetery in Crany, Wyoming, West Virginia.

There were no children to this union.

Vaughn J. Cozort enlisted into the military on April 15, 1942 and served during WWII.

David Harold Lamb was married once before to Mildred Lee Cook (1923-1927) with whom he had the following children: Larry Lamb, Michael Ross Lamb, Vicki Lamb, and Kenny Lamb.

John Harrison Cozort

John Harrison Cozort (son of William Harrison Cozart and Julia A. Mandaville) was born on February 2, 1872 in Wyoming County, West Virginia.  He died on March 9, 1958 in Welch, McDowell, West Virginia.  He married Triza Eclantine McGraw on January 19, 1898 in Wyoming County, West Virginia.  She was born in September 8, 1879 in Wyoming County, West Virginia.  She died on October 26, 1932.

John Harrison Cozart and Triza Eclantine McGraw were buried at Gunnoe Family Cemetery in Crany, Wyoming County, West Virginia.
