Gilbert and Ethel Thornton Gilbert. He graduated from Tech High School in Atlanta, and Duke University in Durham, N.C., after serving in the Air Force, flying 50 combat missions as a bombardier in World War II. He married the former Alice Kelly in Troy, Ala., on July 5, 1949. The young couple moved to Fort Worth in 1950, where Ed worked at the Fort Worth National/Texas American Bank until his retirement as vice president in 1986. Ed was an avid golfer at Glen Garden and Ridglea Country clubs, where his down-the-middle drives and tidy short game served him well, enabling him to shoot his age on numerous occasions. He was also an active member at First Presbyterian Church, the Sertoma Club, and a 15-year participant with Meals on Wheels. In retirement, Ed and Alice loved to travel and visited destinations all over the world. Survivors: Wife of 67 years, Alice; daughter, Susan Baldelomar of Fort Worth; son, John Gilbert (Mary Pat) of Lenexa, Kan.; grandchildren, Raquel Baldelomar of Santa Monica, Calif., Diana Baldelomar of Boston, Mass., Capt. Carlos Baldelomar (Sarah) of Havelock, N.C., Chris Baldelomar (Angie) of Lubbock, Eddie Baldelomar of Hawaii, Katie Gilbert of Chicago, Ill., and Brad Gilbert of Lawrence, Kan.; and four great-grandchildren. Ed was a loving and vital influence to each of the grandchildren, providing support and encouragement, and was always available to offer his sensible, practical perspective.
