Notes:
April 9, 1665 - William Cooke Jr. appointed George Stoat of Bristol, England, to receive of my wife's brother, Hugh Roper, legacy left by her father.
November 10, 1665 -- William and Joan Cooke sold the 360 acres that were granted to him on February 3, 1664 to Thomas Woodward.

Possible father and grandfather for William Cooke: William Cooke (1613-1679), the son of "mariner" Philip Cooke and his wife Elizabeth _______ , was married to Mary Blackborne on 4 June, 1632 in St. Augustine's parish church in Bristol, County Gloucester, England. His son William was probably born in Virginia, or enroute, in the next year as there is no parish record. The record does state that the elder William married again in 1636 (not in that parish) to Ann _______ and that a son Philip was born of this union. This second marriage and birth were probably also in Virginia, as was a third marriage to another Mary. William, the immigrant, was in Virginia by 1634 when he and William Miles patented 1100 acres in Isle of Wight County on the second branch of the Blackwater, adjacent to John Oliver and Frances English. The third wife, Mary ______ was named when William sold 400 acres in Isle of Wight in 1669 before moving on to Surry County. He died in Surry before 1879 as his wife had remarried by that date. I would love to see documentation for this!

Possible children:  One researcher also says that William and Joan had two additional daughters: Sarah Cooke who married Samuel Cornwall and another daughter who married Samuel Hargroves.  I do not have any documentation to back up these daughters.  Neither are mentioned in their parent's wills.  The will of Samuel Cornwall was written in March 1717/8 and proved in August 1718 apparently names his brother in law, Samuel Hargrove/Hargrave.  I believe, unless specifically states, Samuel Cromwall could have married a Ms. Hargrove/Hargrave just as easily as a Ms. Cooke and still be his brother-in-law.

Joan is said to be the daughter of Hugh Roper of Somerset, England.  She apparently received a legacy from her father in 1665/1666.  The above record mentions a brother named Hugh, but no mention of her father's name.  Joan's will mention John and Henry Carrell.  Were they her children with John Carrell or her step-children?
