Benjamin Selmor Armistead

Benjamin Selmor Armistead (son of Jesse J. Armistead and Mary Lou) was born on September 25, 1893 in Muscogee County, Georgia.  He died on September 23, 1952 in Fulton County, Georgia.  He married Mamie Lou Greene.

3.  William Smith Armistead was born on June 20, 1920 in Georgia.  He died on November 22, 2001.  He was  buried at Decatur Cemetery in Decatur, DeKalb, Georgia.
4.  Valda Nell Armistead was born on June 20, 1922 in Georgia.  She died on January 20, 2010 in Aiken, Aiken, South Carolina.
5.  Chester Armistead was born in 1926 in Georgia.

He married Mary E. McGouirk (daughter of James Washington McGouirk and Annie Lena Weaver) She was born in 1913 in Georgia.  

Mary E. McGouirk was buried at Decatur Cemetery in Decatur, DeKalb, Georgia.

Children to this union are unknown.

Mamie Lou Greene was first married to a Mr. Cocroft and had the following children: John G. Cocroft, Susie Cocroft and Elizabeth Cocroft.

John G. Cocroft and William Smith Armistead both list a sister named Ceclia Armistread who survives them in their obituary.  Is this Mary born in 1916 or a child of Benjamin and Mary McGouirk Armistead?

Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Valda Nell Armistead Pirkle will take place on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at 2:00pm at Westview Cemetery, Atlanta, GA, with Dr. Rev. George Howle officiating. Memorial donations may be directed to St. John's United Methodist Church, 104 Newberry St. NW Aiken, SC 29801 or The Children's Department of the Aiken County Library, 314 Chesterfield St. South, Aiken, SC 29801. George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, is assisting the family.
Mrs. Pirkle, of Aiken, SC died Wednesday, January 20, 2010, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers, eight days after the death of her husband of sixty-eight years, E. C. Pirkle, on January 12th.
Born in Dothan, AL and reared in Atlanta, GA, she was the daughter of the late Ben S. Armistead, Sr. and Mamie Lou Greene Armistead. She was a homemaker and devoted wife and mother. Before moving to Aiken in 1993, she had lived in Gainesville, FL, where she was a dedicated volunteer in the church nursery at First United Methodist Church. She was currently a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, Aiken, SC.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by three bothers; Ben S. Armistead, Jr., William S. Armistead and Chester Armistead.
She is survived by two sons; William A. (Rachel) Pirkle, Aiken, SC and Fredric L. (Sandra) Pirkle, St. Augustine, FL. She is also survived by five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
